AERI is investing public money in research and development, and must therefore protect the interests of both the public and the research applicant. Funds are provided under the terms of an agreed contract that specifies the project schedule, deliverables and terms of payment.
Submitting an application does not guarantee that funding will be provided. All applications compete with other applications in meeting the criteria for AERI investment. In any given budget year, available funding may be quite limited.
