AERI is no longer accepting applications or pre-applications for funding. AERI is in the process of transforming into a new provincial corporation called: Alberta Innovates – Energy and Environment Solutions. Once the transition is complete, applicants will be directed to the new website (currently under development).
The Research and Technology Program is geared to universities, research organizations and industry. It replaces the Industry Research Program, Innovations Assistance Program and COURSE (University Research Program).
Through the Research and Technology Program, AERI encourages all applicants to work collaboratively, such as in university/industry partnerships and industry consortia. Grants will typically be over $50,000 for one year projects, to millions of dollars for large, multi-year pilot and demonstration projects.
AERI also supports individual inventors with smaller grants intended to help inventors gain assistance with engineering designs, building prototypes and getting patents. Inventions should have the potential to make a significant impact on the energy industry and have an industry supporter. Grants are typically less than $50,000 for project that last less than one year.
Examples of inventions receiving grants in the past include:
- Continuous sucker rod
- Method of making smooth narrow keystone slots in slotted liner
- Method that stops gas flow outside casing
- Device for wire line entry above bridle
- Pig for cleaning process furnaces
- Design of antenna used in electromagnetic surveying
Oil and Gas Producers are also encouraged to consider application to the Innovative Energy Technology Program (IETP) that was developed by Alberta Energy.
