Prior to September 2004, AERI's university research investment in Alberta was made primarily through the Core University Research in Sustainable Energy (COURSE) Program.
COURSE provided a link between the energy industry and universities to ensure that basic research in strategic areas is funded. The program was run as an annual competition, and projects were evaluated by a review panel of industry, university and AERI representatives.
Because university research is an integral part of each of AERI’s six core research programs, a decision was made to discontinue COURSE in order to ensure a better strategic fit between university projects and the research programs.
Therefore, university applicants are encouraged to apply to AERI through the Research and Technology Program. Applications that are linked to pilot and demonstration projects, industry consortia and Chair programs will receive special consideration.
